The British government on Friday approved the United States’ use of its military bases to target Iranian missile sites accused of attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a move that drew sharp criticism from Iran, which described it as “participation in aggression.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a British government spokesperson, ministers held a meeting to assess the ongoing conflict with Iran, including disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

“They confirmed that the agreement allowing the US to use UK bases for collective self-defence includes operations aimed at weakening missile sites and capabilities used to attack vessels in the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement said.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, condemned the decision, warning that Tehran views Britain’s approval as direct involvement in the conflict. He also criticised the UK’s stance during a conversation with his British counterpart, describing it as “negative and biased” toward the US-Israeli actions against Iran.

Starmer Shifts Position on Military Support

Prime Minister Keir Starmer had earlier indicated that the UK would not be drawn into the conflict and initially declined a US request to use British bases, citing the need to confirm the legality of such action.

However, his position changed after Iran launched attacks on British allies in the Middle East. Britain subsequently granted the US access to RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia, a joint US-UK military base in the Indian Ocean.

Reports indicate that US President Donald Trump had criticised the UK’s earlier hesitation, suggesting Britain was not doing enough to support American efforts.

Despite the approval, the British government has called for “urgent de-escalation and a swift resolution” to the conflict.

The decision marks an expansion of the UK’s involvement beyond its previous role, which was limited to intercepting Iranian missiles and drones targeting British interests and allies.

In response, Iran has effectively halted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route that handles about one-fifth of global oil supply, raising concerns of a global energy crisis.

The conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has now entered its fourth week, with casualties continuing to rise on all sides.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
