The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, issued the directive in a statement on Friday in Abuja, following the viral circulation of a video showing alleged sexual assaults at the Alue-Do Festival—also known as the “Festival of Fertility”—held in Ozoro Kingdom, Isoko North Local Government Area.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed deep concern over reports that women were subjected to harassment and assault during the event. She commended the Delta State Police Command for its swift response and called for a comprehensive investigation.

She urged “a transparent, thorough, and accelerated probe to ensure that all persons implicated are identified and brought to justice without delay.”

Describing the alleged acts as disturbing and unacceptable, the minister emphasized that no cultural or traditional practice can justify sexual violence. She stressed that sexual assault is a serious criminal offence, and perpetrators must be held fully accountable under the law.

The minister highlighted that Nigeria’s Constitution and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act provide legal protections against such offences. She reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding women and girls, pledging collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs to support victims with psychosocial care, medical attention, and legal assistance.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.
