Brave Security Guard Risks Life To Thwart Terrorists At UMTH.
For years to come, Ali Musa Buba, a security guard at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), will be remembered as a hero who risked his life to stop a terrorist attack and save countless lives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
It was 7:24 p.m., and families across Maiduguri were reaching for dates and water to break their Ramadan fast when a sudden series of explosions shattered the calm. Panic swept through the city. The first blasts erupted at the crowded Monday Market, followed by more near the Post Office. Sirens wailed, screams echoed, and fear rippled through the Borno State capital.
But inside UMTH, a different scene was unfolding—a quiet act of courage that would prevent a greater tragedy.
The Gatekeeper
Within the hospital, patients rested and families gathered for Iftar. The gates were manned by Ali Musa Buba. While many looked toward the rising smoke, Musa’s attention was drawn to a motorbike approaching the entrance. Three men rode on it, their intent clearly sinister.
“They tried to force their way in,” Musa whispered from his hospital bed, recounting the encounter to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
Without hesitation, Musa stepped forward to block them. What followed lasted only seconds.
When the attackers failed to breach the gate, they hurled explosive-laden food containers—meant for Ramadan—directly at him. The explosion threw Musa backward, shattering the calm with fire, shrapnel, and pain. His arms and legs were torn, but the attackers never entered the hospital.
Behind that gate lay crowded wards, patients too weak to flee, and families gathered together. Musa became the barrier between life and catastrophe. Even Governor Zulum acknowledged that the death toll and destruction would have been far worse without his bravery.
From Protector to Patient
Today, Musa lies in the same hospital he defended. Doctors and nurses, bracing for casualties from the city blasts, now treat one of their own. Shrapnel scars his body, but his spirit remains strong. Among hospital staff and volunteers, his name is spoken with awe and gratitude—a gatekeeper who refused to step aside.
The Night the City Bled
As the wounded flooded UMTH, the emergency ward was pushed to its limits. Stretchers rolled in, doctors shouted instructions, and nurses moved urgently, their uniforms stained with blood. When supplies ran low, the hospital called for blood donors.
From across Maiduguri, residents responded. Young men, traders, students, and civil servants arrived at the hospital gates. Some had fled the blasts; others hadn’t even broken their fast. Quiet lines formed, volunteers rolled up their sleeves, and bags of blood were quickly moved into operating rooms. Lives that seemed lost were saved, a testament to the spirit of Borno.
The Shattered
But tragedy could not be avoided entirely. At Monday Market, chaos claimed lives, including those of four children under the care of Malam Goni, a respected Tsangaya school teacher. The children, searching for food to break their fast, never returned. Goni described the loss as the will of Allah, but the grief was profound.
The Quiet Heroes
High-profile visitors, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, NEMA Director General Hajia Zubaida Umar Abubakar, Borno Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, and Governor Zulum, visited the hospital to comfort victims. Social media influencer VeryDarkMan also paid respects.
Yet the real heroes were those like Musa, who acted without cameras or applause. Because of their courage, hundreds survived. And in the aftermath, the people of Borno showed resilience and humanity, coming together to give life to one another even amid terror.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
