“Ataoja Debunks Claims Linking Osun Sacred Grove To Odun Omi Festival”.

The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Larooye II, has dismissed reports suggesting any connection between the Osun Sacred Grove and a newly introduced festival known as ‘Odun Omi’.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Friday, the monarch denied allegations linking the grove and the globally recognised Osun-Osogbo Festival to activities involving an individual connected to another royal palace in Osun State. He stressed that no consultation or official communication was made with his palace before such claims emerged.

The clarification follows reports that a queen from the Ooni of Ife’s palace recently visited the grove and announced plans for a separate festival at the location. Sources indicated that the Ataoja’s palace was not involved in the planning or announcement of the event.

According to a statement by Oyindamola Olukanni, Head of Media at Our Heritage Branding, consultants for the Osun-Osogbo Festival, the grove and festival remain under the exclusive custodianship of the Ataoja of Osogbo.

The palace emphasised that the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove and its festival are deeply rooted cultural and spiritual heritage institutions unique to Osogbo land, noting that they cannot be transferred, replicated, or relocated.

It further highlighted that Yoruba traditional institutions operate within defined territories, lineage, and custodial authority, warning that any contrary narrative undermines established cultural protocols.

The Ataoja made it clear that the palace does not recognise any claims linking Osogbo’s heritage to parallel events such as ‘Odun Omi’ or any similar festival.

“No parallel or similarly themed festival has any legitimacy or connection to the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove,” the statement added.

The palace urged the public and stakeholders, including the international community, to rely only on verified information from its authorised representatives.

  • Systemic Issues: Beyond security, he noted that the education sector is failing, with out-of-school children, poor infrastructure, and unpaid teachers compounding the crisis.
