The governor made the appeal during a statewide address, where he also sought forgiveness for any shortcomings in his administration. He asked for the understanding of the people while reaffirming his commitment to protecting lives and property.
Expressing sympathy for victims of insecurity, Zulum acknowledged their resilience as the backbone of the state. He stressed that unity and collective prayers are essential in overcoming Borno’s challenges.
As political activities intensify, the governor warned against actions that could undermine the fragile peace in the state. He said, “My dear people, as the political season heats up, tensions may rise. But we must align our political interests with the realities of our security situation. Let us not allow politics to erode the hard-earned peace we have built.”
Zulum urged political aspirants and their supporters to prioritize the interests of Borno State over personal ambitions. He reiterated his loyalty to Vice President Shettima, emphasizing that it remains unquestionable. “Since assuming office in 2019, I have conducted myself with fairness, justice, and inclusivity across the political spectrum. My loyalty to His Excellency, the Vice President, is unwavering,” he said.
The governor highlighted the trust he has maintained with political stakeholders at both state and national levels, adding, “I have never betrayed the confidence of members of the national and state assemblies or other political office holders from Borno.”
Zulum also issued a stern warning to anyone aiding insurgents, declaring that those providing information, shelter, or logistical support to criminal elements will be identified, tracked, and prosecuted.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for releasing funds to support the Multi-National Joint Task Force and other military operations, describing the intervention as critical in sustaining the fight against insurgency. Zulum further thanked Vice President Shettima for representing the President during a recent sympathy visit to the state.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the governor urged citizens to remain united and prayerful as the state prepares for new leadership. “As we look to the future and choose a new leader for our state, I urge all residents to pray fervently for a worthy successor. Let us remember that power belongs to Allah, and He grants it to whom He wills,” he said.
Finally, Zulum warned political actors against being used to create instability, emphasizing the importance of preserving peace in Borno State.
