The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commended and rewarded Staff Sergeant Amoke Gunshot Simeon for his role in the 2010 operation that led to the arrest of infamous Abia-born kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo, popularly known as ‘Osisikankwu’, in Aba.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

‘Osisikankwu’ had terrorized Aba and surrounding areas with his kidnapping gang from 2008 to 2010, until Amoke and his team successfully brought him to justice, restoring security to the state.

During a visit to Amoke at his home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South, Governor Otti pledged to sponsor the soldier for overseas medical treatment to aid his recovery and ensure his return to full health.

Speaking to journalists, Amoke recounted his mission in Abia, emphasizing that his team’s goal was to track kidnappers and criminals to restore peace. He revealed that ‘Osisikankwu’ had even offered him a ₦50 million bribe to let his criminal activities continue, which he firmly rejected.

“My patrol covered areas from Ngwa High School to Asa, Onicha Ngwa, and Ikot Ekpene. I refused the bribe, and that brought relief to the people of Abia State,” Amoke said. “A good job pays. Today, I am proud and grateful to Governor Otti for remembering me and supporting me.”

Amoke also shared his struggle following a severe motor accident in the North East while on active duty, which left him with serious leg injuries. He expressed deep gratitude to Governor Otti for the support and the promise of overseas treatment, adding that it will inspire other military personnel to serve diligently.

“It was actually an accident while on duty in the North East, and the initial treatment did not help. I am thrilled that Governor Otti remembers those who fought for Abia State. His support will motivate other soldiers to serve with dedication,” he said.

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
