Akume Loyalists Hold Meeting As Samuel Ortom And Mike Aondoakaa Plot To Oust Gov. Alia Akwe.

The crisis within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified as loyalists of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, reportedly move to block the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Alia. The faction has pledged to wrest control from the governor in 2027, describing their actions as necessary to “save the state and its people.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A former Attorney-General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaa, appeared in a viral video criticizing Governor Alia’s leadership, speaking at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus meeting hosted at the residence of former governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi. Aondoakaa described the governor as having failed to meet expectations and said the alliance with the PDP was intended to remove him from office.

“They said they have money, but the money belongs to all of us. God will not allow them to use the money to defeat us,” Aondoakaa said. He added that the collaboration with the PDP had the backing of Senator Akume, who was absent due to official duties in Abuja. “Senator George Akume is busy… ensuring that the foundation of the strategic partnership produces results,” he stated.

Other APC leaders, including Mathias Byuan, Pius Akutah, and Sebastian Hon, attended the meeting, pledging loyalty to Akume and Ortom. Observers note that the rift stems from control of the party structure ahead of the 2027 elections. Reports indicate that the Akume faction is dissatisfied that authority within the APC in Benue has shifted to Governor Alia, raising concerns over ticket allocation for future contests.

The crisis previously manifested in parallel congresses producing rival chairmen – Austin Agada and Benjamin Omale – and reconciliation efforts, including intervention by Vice President Kashim Shettima, have so far stalled. Political analysts expressed surprise that Akume loyalists participated in a PDP caucus meeting despite Shettima’s call for unity within the party.

Governor Alia’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, said the governor remained unfazed. “It is the wish of the governor that APC works as a family… He believes the masses are with him,” Kula stated, describing internal critics as “disgruntled elements” seeking to undermine the administration.

Meanwhile, Daniel Ihomun, spokesperson for the Akume faction, confirmed attendance at the PDP meeting but said it was intended to mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. He added that APC members in the state remain open to collaboration with groups supporting Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The statement, however, did not indicate any backing for Governor Alia’s re-election, fueling speculation about deepening divisions within the party.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Published

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
