The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University branch, has suspended its industrial action after reaching a fresh agreement with the Taraba State Government and the university management.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the decision was announced in a statement issued after the union’s congress and signed by its Chairman, Mbave Joshua, on Tuesday. The union explained that the suspension followed extensive deliberations and was based on assurances from the state government to address the issues that led to the strike.

ASUU described the newly signed Memorandum of Action as a crucial step toward reviving academic activities and enhancing the welfare of its members. The union also assured students, parents, and the general public that lectures and other academic engagements would resume immediately, while it continues to monitor compliance with the agreement.

The statement reaffirmed the branch’s commitment to ensuring that all terms of the agreement are fully implemented in the interest of staff and the overall development of the institution. It also appreciated stakeholders for their patience, understanding, and support throughout the duration of the industrial action.

The strike, which commenced on February 18, 2026, was triggered by unresolved disagreements between the lecturers and the state government, particularly over unpaid salary arrears, earned academic allowances, and the absence of a pension scheme for staff.

Tensions escalated when the state government introduced a no-work, no-pay policy two weeks into the strike. However, efforts to resolve the dispute intensified after the creation of the Office of the Visitor within the university and a meeting between Governor Agbu Kefas and the lecturers following his assumption of the role.

During the meeting, the governor approved an initial ₦200 million to offset part of the outstanding salary backlog and pledged an additional ₦100 million monthly until all pending obligations were cleared. Although the union initially considered the offer insufficient, the intervention fund was later increased to ₦500 million, a development that significantly influenced the eventual resolution.

With the suspension of the strike, stakeholders have expressed optimism that the agreement will be fully implemented to prevent future disruptions, while the union has maintained that it will closely monitor the government’s adherence to all provisions of the Memorandum of Action.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
