Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced that the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Durbar in the state. The statement indicated that the decision to have Emir Sanusi lead the Sallah Durbar followed credible intelligence reports suggesting attempts by certain individuals to incite unrest during the festive period. The Kano government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the state’s cultural heritage and outlined strict guidelines to maintain law and order throughout the celebrations.
Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by Emir Sanusi, beginning at Kofar Mata Eid Ground, proceeding along designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and concluding at Kofar Fatalwa of the emir’s palace. The government also stated that Hawan Nasarawa will take place in a modified format without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been temporarily suspended in the interest of public safety.
All security agencies have been directed to intensify monitoring and ensure strict compliance with the directives before, during, and after the celebrations. The government urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security personnel, assuring the public of a peaceful and orderly Eid-el-Fitr while wishing Muslims in Kano a joyous Sallah.

The clip, which sparked widespread reactions online, showed her seconding the motion but struggling to provide clarification when questioned, raising concerns about her legislative engagement.
In a statement, Gwacham, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said she was caught off guard during plenary after just returning to her seat when she was called upon to second the motion without prior notice.
She explained that the sudden request affected her ability to immediately recall the specifics of the motion.
The motion, sponsored by Muktar Tolani Shagaya, focused on the urgent deployment of Automated External Defibrillators in public institutions to help prevent avoidable deaths through emergency medical response.
Gwacham said her decision to second the motion was based on confidence in the sponsor rather than full prior briefing on its details.
Reacting to the backlash, she thanked her constituents for their concern and reaffirmed her commitment to effective representation, insisting the incident does not reflect her dedication to legislative duties.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Kachikwu argued that the convention violated a Federal High Court order issued on April 14, which directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a case filed by ADC state chairmen against former Senate President David Mark and others.
He insisted that the order barred any congresses or conventions until the matter is resolved, adding that the event therefore holds no legal validity.
Kachikwu described the organisers as “political merchants” who are allegedly working to destabilise the country.
He questioned their disregard for court orders, saying such actions show they do not mean well for either the party or Nigeria.
He also dismissed the convention as a “blame game” among opposition figures, accusing them of focusing only on criticising President Bola Tinubu without offering concrete policy alternatives.
According to him, the group’s actions amount to an attempt to provoke disorder through what he called “political gangsterism,” adding that their approach reflects a lack of ideas and direction.
