In a post on his handle, Opeifa explained that operations had resumed after swift intervention by NRC personnel. “Following the incident on Monday, 16th March 2026, normal train operations have been fully restored through the swift intervention of the Nigerian Railway Corporation,” he stated. “Passengers can now confidently book tickets, as improved safety and operational measures have been implemented to ensure secure and comfortable journeys.”
Opeifa noted that the corporation’s rapid response minimized disruption while reinforcing its commitment to passenger safety. The NRC also confirmed the successful resumption of the return trip from Rigasa in Kaduna State, signaling a return to normalcy along the busy rail line. “We are also pleased to welcome passengers on the AKTS return trip from Rigasa, Kaduna State, yesterday, 17th March 2026, with the support of HRH Alhaji Ishaq Ibrahim Tanko, Hakimin Idu District Head, Abuja,” Opeifa added. “Train services are back to normal, safer and better.”
The incident occurred at about 9:16 a.m. on Monday near Asham Station. The affected train, identified as KA2, had departed Rigasa and made a scheduled stop at Jere, where an additional rear locomotive was attached. After leaving Jere, the rear locomotive became detached while the train was in motion and rolled forward, colliding with the rear of the same train, striking the power car and last passenger coach.
The NRC clarified that the incident did not involve a collision between two separate trains but was an internal operational issue. Opeifa emphasised that enhanced safety and operational protocols have since been implemented to prevent recurrence and urged passengers to travel with confidence as services stabilize along the corridor.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
