PDP Crisis Deepens As Wike Warns Against Supreme Court Battle.

Published

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Sani, has weighed in on the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party, shedding light on the position of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding the possibility of escalating the dispute to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, Sani, while speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, suggested that Wike’s reluctance to pursue the matter at the Supreme Court stems from an understanding of the potential consequences such a move could have on the already fragile internal stability of the party.

He explained that taking the dispute to the nation’s highest court could prolong the crisis and further complicate efforts to resolve the internal disagreements currently affecting the party’s leadership structure.

Sani also pointed out that the party is presently operating without a fully recognised National Working Committee, a situation he said could make any prolonged legal proceedings even more complicated and deepen divisions among party members.

Despite the leadership uncertainty, he noted that key party organs, including the PDP Board of Trustees and the PDP National Executive Committee, are still functioning and actively working to manage the crisis while ensuring that the party’s constitutional procedures are respected.

According to him, allowing these internal mechanisms to handle the dispute provides room for dialogue and reconciliation among stakeholders, rather than intensifying the conflict through a lengthy legal battle.

Sani further argued that avoiding an immediate appeal to the Supreme Court should not be interpreted as weakness but rather as a calculated political decision aimed at preserving unity within the party.

He added that prominent figures within the PDP, including Wike, are currently prioritising negotiation, compromise and reconciliation in a bid to stabilise the party, attract new members and strengthen its structure ahead of future electoral contests.

“Wike is saying we should not go to the Supreme Court because he knows the implications. Going down this route might prolong the conflict and make it harder to resolve internal issues within the party,” Sani stated.
