Iran War Fallout: EU Eyes Military Mission To Secure Critical Oil Passage.

Published

The European Union is reportedly considering the deployment of naval missions aimed at helping to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz as escalating tensions surrounding the Iran conflict continue to disrupt global energy supply and push up prices of energy and fertilisers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the proposal was disclosed by the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers scheduled to take place in Brussels on Monday.

Kallas explained that maintaining open access to the strait is a matter of strategic importance for Europe, noting that the bloc is currently evaluating possible actions it could take to ensure the vital maritime corridor remains operational.

“It is in our interest to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, and that’s why we are also discussing what we can do in this regard from the European side,” she said.

Reports indicate that the EU is examining two potential options. One proposal involves expanding the existing Operation Aspides, which currently safeguards commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea, to extend its operations into the Persian Gulf.

Another option under consideration is the creation of a “coalition of the willing,” which would involve individual EU member states contributing naval assets and military resources on a voluntary basis to help secure the strategic waterway.

The discussions come amid growing international concern following remarks by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, who reportedly urged several global powers — including China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom — to deploy warships alongside American forces to help safeguard the crucial maritime passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the most critical oil transit routes in the world, linking the Persian Gulf to international markets. Disruptions to shipping activities in the narrow corridor have triggered concerns across global markets and contributed to the surge in energy and fertiliser prices.

Iran’s actions have significantly affected the movement of oil tankers through the route, fuelling fears of a prolonged global energy crisis.

However, Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of Iran, rejected claims that Tehran had completely shut down the passage. He maintained that Iranian authorities had only restricted the movement of vessels believed to have links with the United States and Israel.

The EU’s latest deliberations follow similar signals from France and the United Kingdom last week, with both countries expressing support for coordinated international efforts to secure the vital waterway. Nonetheless, officials from the two nations also stressed that any military deployment would require careful planning and coordination before being carried out.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
