Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed Set To Dump PDP For APC.
Indications have emerged that Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, is considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Investigations by ThisDay suggest that Mohammed could officially defect this week, barring any last-minute changes. Sources say negotiations over the terms of his defection were ongoing at the time of reporting.
According to insiders, Mohammed has informed President Bola Tinubu and APC leadership of his intention to join the party. He is reportedly being offered an APC senatorial ticket and other privileges typically extended to governors who have defected previously.
However, the conditions for Mohammed’s defection are said to be stricter than those given to earlier defectors. Unlike previous cases, he may not be allowed to control the APC structure in Bauchi State.
“Unlike the privileges extended to the early defectors, Bala Mohammed can’t get the full APC structure in Bauchi. They told him the best he could get is his ticket to the Senate since he is nursing the ambition, but he can’t nominate his successor. He was told in clear terms. He is stuck, from all indications,” one source said.
Another factor reportedly influencing his decision is the legal challenges facing his Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, who faces terrorism-related charges and a ₦4.6 billion money laundering case. Sources claim Adamu threatened to implicate the governor if not released from custody.
Additionally, Mohammed was reportedly required to apologise to Seyi Tinubu, son of the president, following a controversy in March 2025, when Mohammed criticised the distribution of Ramadan palliatives in Bauchi State by Seyi Tinubu. Reports indicate the apology has already been made as part of negotiations.
Push for Influence in Succession
Mohammed is reportedly dissatisfied with the restriction that prevents him from influencing the selection of his successor in Bauchi. Sources say he approached APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda to negotiate a possible 60–40 sharing arrangement of the party structure in the state. He is also said to have convened a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi this week in preparation for the planned defection.
The potential move has caused anger among PDP members, particularly supporters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who see it as a betrayal given Mohammed’s role as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Party insiders argue that if the forum chairman cannot remain in the party, it raises questions about the future of the opposition.
If Mohammed defects, the number of APC governors would rise to 32. Currently, PDP controls Oyo State through Governor Seyi Makinde, Labour Party governs Abia State with Governor Alex Otti, All Progressives Grand Alliance holds Anambra State with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, and the Accord Party governs Osun State with Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
