Amaechi, Peter Obi Best Positioned To Challenge Tinubu In 2027 – Akande.

Former presidential aide Laolu Akande has stated that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi are best positioned to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Akande made the remarks on Friday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, emphasizing that a strong opposition is crucial for the sustainability of Nigeria’s democracy.

“A meaningful challenge is not only desirable but imperative for a sustainable democracy. That’s why all of us must raise our voices to strengthen the democratic space,” he said.

His comments come amid growing discussions within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Amaechi, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), recently suggested the party should consider fielding a southern candidate. Likewise, Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has confirmed his intention to contest in 2027.

Presidency Should Remain In The South
Akande stressed that opposition parties should accept that the presidency is expected to remain in the southern region for the next electoral cycle.

“What should be clear by now, especially for the opposition like the ADC, is that the presidency is going to stay in the south,” he said. He added that indecision within opposition ranks is preventing the emergence of a credible challenger to the ruling APC.

The former aide also pointed out that the continued political influence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is creating uncertainty within opposition politics.

“One of the challenges affecting the rise of a serious opposition is the lingering presence of Atiku Abubakar, who still seeks to run. We’ve reached a point where the question of a national presidency has become a national concern, and it’s unwise for anyone to undermine that,” Akande said.

He urged opposition parties to support seasoned southern politicians such as Amaechi and Obi if they intend to mount a serious campaign against Tinubu.

“If they were serious, individuals like Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi should be at the forefront. Look at Amaechi—he’s been a Speaker, a governor, a minister, and the deputy in the APC. He has had a tremendous career in politics and public service, including overseeing infrastructure development,” he added.

Akande also warned that if the opposition fails to present a clear southern candidate with proven governance experience, Atiku could still dominate the opposition landscape ahead of 2027.

“As it stands, if the signals continue that Atiku wants to pursue it on his own, he may find a way, because he remains one of the strongest politicians in the party. The shadows of Atiku still loom large,” he said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
