“This Political Distraction Must End Now” – Aiyedatiwa Reacts To Court Ruling.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has faulted a ruling by the Federal High Court in Akure that prevents him from seeking another term, describing the decision as premature and a needless distraction from his responsibilities in governing the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The court, presided over by Toyin Bolaji Adegoke, ruled that the 1999 Constitution restricts governors to a maximum of eight years in office.

The suit was instituted by Kin Egbuwalo, a member of the All Progressives Congress, who asked the court to interpret Section 137(3) of the Constitution regarding Aiyedatiwa’s eligibility to contest another election.

After reviewing the case, the court agreed with the plaintiff and issued an order barring the governor from participating in a future governorship race.

Those listed as defendants in the case included Aiyedatiwa, his deputy Olayide Adelami, the All Progressives Congress, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Reacting during an appearance on the Politics Today programme on Channels Television, Aiyedatiwa said discussions about the 2028 off-cycle governorship election were premature.

He noted that he only recently secured a fresh mandate in the November 2024 election and is currently focused on fulfilling his duties in office.

The governor explained that he has not yet examined how the constitutional eight-year tenure limit could affect his future political plans, as his attention remains on delivering the policies and development projects promised to the people.

He said it was too early to begin debates about another election, stressing that he had just emerged victorious in a free and fair poll held on November 16, 2024.

According to him, his priority is to implement the mandate given to him by voters rather than think about future contests.

Aiyedatiwa added that the ongoing legal debate has created unnecessary distractions, especially after he recently navigated both an election and an impeachment challenge.

He expressed confidence that the issue would eventually be resolved, allowing him to concentrate fully on governance.

The governor also maintained that the APC continues to hold strong political influence in Ondo State, noting that politics ultimately revolves around numbers, while insisting that he is not trying to force anyone out of the party.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
