Professor Nwachukwu assured students that the university would protect the identity of complainants while taking decisive action against offenders. He emphasized that AE-FUNAI maintains zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, “sex-for-marks,” extortion, sexual harassment, and other unethical behaviours.

The vice-chancellor delivered this message during the 14th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, held at the university campus in Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area. He warned that such misconduct undermines the university’s core values of excellence and integrity and would be punished in accordance with the students’ handbook and institutional regulations.

“Please report any of these offences to relevant authorities, including the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Dean of Students’ Affairs, Director of SERVICOM, and other officials. Your identity will be protected, and prompt action will be taken,” he said.

Professor Nwachukwu also revealed that 5,227 students were admitted for the 2025/2026 session, urging them to stay focused on their academic goals. “Today marks a major milestone as we welcome 5,227 freshmen into our vibrant academic community. On behalf of university management, I warmly welcome you and acknowledge your families and friends for supporting you to reach this stage,” he stated.

Describing AE-FUNAI as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing public universities, Nwachukwu noted that the institution is gaining national and international recognition. He expressed his vision to position the university as a centre of academic and intellectual excellence in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.

“Our goal is to make AE-FUNAI research-driven, globally competitive, and to provide students with an exceptional educational experience that equips them with knowledge and skills valuable to Nigeria and humanity,” he added.

The vice-chancellor urged students to remain disciplined, attend lectures, complete assignments, and actively engage with lecturers. He encouraged them to seek help from university authorities when needed and reminded them that suggestion boxes are available across campus for complaints or concerns.

Nwachukwu also announced plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the university curriculum, preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving global environment. The proposal was presented to the university senate during his inaugural address on March 3, 2026.

“As students, your goal is not just to earn degrees, but to become leaders, innovators, and agents of change. Use your time here to explore opportunities, develop your talents, and make meaningful contributions to society,” he concluded.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
