Group Urges Tinubu To Act On 120M Nigerians In Poverty And Out Of School.

One Youth Global has warned that Nigeria’s social crisis is worsening, with over 120 million people living in extreme poverty and more than 18 million children out of school.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The organisation urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to implement urgent and practical measures to expand access to education, upgrade school infrastructure, and reward academic excellence.

The group’s President, Mr. Uchechukwu Agbo, described the education crisis as a national emergency.

“Over 18 million children are still out of school in Nigeria. This is a state of emergency,” he said. “To move the nation forward, the Federal Government must ensure more young people enrol, remain in school, and graduate successfully.”

Agbo also called for a comprehensive review of the nation’s curriculum, emphasizing the need to equip young Nigerians with practical knowledge and problem-solving skills relevant to today’s world.

“Our curricula must meet 21st-century needs,” he stated. “Young people should be empowered to solve real societal problems, shifting the focus from what they want to be to what problem they want to solve when they grow up.”

Highlighting the challenges faced by teachers, Agbo said poor salaries are discouraging talented individuals from joining the profession.

“Teaching is poorly paid, and often only those unable to secure other jobs become teachers,” he explained. “To promote excellence, we must improve teacher remuneration.”

He also urged Nigerians in the diaspora to invest in education back home, stressing that government efforts alone are insufficient.

“Reshaping our education system cannot be achieved by the government alone. Those abroad should invest in schools in their communities to ensure more children can access education,” he said.

Agbo linked low school enrolment to insecurity, pointing out that the majority of out-of-school children are in northern Nigeria, a region most affected by violence.

“Over 70% of these children live in northern Nigeria, where terrorism is highest. This shows a clear link between low literacy and insecurity. Educated communities experience less crime,” he noted.

He called on all levels of government to equip schools with modern facilities, particularly laboratories and libraries.

“Schools are under-equipped. Many science students know theory but lack practical experience because schools lack the necessary equipment,” he said.

Agbo emphasized that meaningful reform requires deliberate investment in public education across Nigeria.

“University and secondary school labs must be equipped, libraries stocked with books, and government-owned primary and secondary schools need functional libraries to support learning,” he concluded.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
