A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has advised opposition politicians with presidential ambitions to rethink their plans for the 2027 election, saying challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would amount to a waste of time and resources.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Igbokwe made the comment in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, where he suggested that the 2027 presidential contest was already tilted in favour of the incumbent.

According to him, any attempt by opposition figures to contest the presidency against Tinubu would be pointless. He urged opposition parties to avoid spending their time, energy, and financial resources on what he described as a futile effort.

“I will advise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP) and others not to waste their precious time, hard-earned money, strength, and energy dreaming about the 2027 presidential election. It will be an exercise in futility. PBAT has taken it. Look deep, think deep,” he wrote.

His remarks come as political discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race continue to intensify, with several prominent opposition figures already indicating interest in contesting.

Among those believed to be considering a run are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Meanwhile, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has assured members that the party will field candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The assurance was given by the faction’s spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, after an expanded meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by governors, members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen, and other party stakeholders.

Among those present were Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Tanimu Turaki, acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, and other key party figures.

Speaking after the meeting, Ememobong said discussions focused on the implications of Monday’s Court of Appeal judgment and the steps needed to ensure the party remains eligible to participate in the 2027 elections.

He expressed confidence that despite the internal challenges and disputes within the party, the PDP would survive and remain a viable political platform.

“Despite the underlying issues, the spirit in the room was clear: PDP must not die. Nigerians still see the PDP as a stable platform for contesting elections, especially with the tight timelines outlined by INEC.

“The guiding philosophy of the discussions was that the PDP will be saved and will remain a political party that will appear on the ballot,” Ememobong said.

He added that party leaders examined several legal, political, and strategic options aimed at safeguarding the future of the party.

“Different ideas—legal, social, political, and even emotional—were proposed on how to ensure two things: that the PDP does not die and that it will be on the ballot,” he explained.

Ememobong noted that the consultations would continue on Wednesday, expressing optimism that clearer strategies would emerge after further deliberations.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
