“Wike Urges Party Members: ‘Let’s Rebuild the PDP’”.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has described yesterday’s Court of Appeal verdict in Abuja as a chance to rebuild the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Welcoming the ruling that annulled the November 15 and 16, 2025 PDP convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, Wike hailed it as a victory for the rule of law and urged party members to set aside personal egos, stop ongoing litigation, and embrace reconciliation.
He warned that taking the matter to the Supreme Court could further weaken the party, especially with primaries for political parties scheduled for April and May.
“By the time you go to the Supreme Court, you are merely causing harm to the party you say you love. It is time now to say we have fought, let us drop our personal interests and ensure PDP becomes the number one opposition party,” Wike said.
The minister encouraged aggrieved members to view the judgment as an opportunity to reconcile and chart a new course for the party.
“For me, it is an opportunity for everybody to come back, leave their ego and personal interests aside, and work together to salvage the party,” he added.
Wike noted that the court’s dismissal of multiple appeals with heavy costs underscores the importance of adhering to statutory provisions, the Electoral Act, and the party constitution. He explained that breaches of these laws made judicial intervention unavoidable, as the issue could no longer be treated solely as an internal party matter.
The ruling also nullified the Ibadan convention and confirmed that the tenure of the previous party officers had expired. Wike stated that the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee remains the legally recognized body managing PDP’s affairs, preventing a leadership vacuum.
He further confirmed that preparations are ongoing for a fresh National Convention, scheduled for March 29 and 30 in Abuja.
