Agbor, who represents Obubra I State Constituency, issued the apology in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, expressing regret over the controversy and public reaction that followed the incident.

In his message, the lawmaker apologised to the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, and the First Lady, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, acknowledging that the situation may have embarrassed the state government and affected the state’s image.

He also extended an apology to the Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, as well as fellow lawmakers, admitting that the incident may have caused disruption within the legislative chamber.

Agbor admitted that his delay in publicly addressing the allegations contributed to widespread speculation. While he maintained that many claims circulating online did not fully reflect the true situation, he accepted responsibility for not speaking out earlier.

The lawmaker further apologised to political leaders, traditional rulers, members of his party—the All Progressives Congress—and both families involved. He pledged to continue serving his constituents with greater humility and commitment.

Meanwhile, the Cross River State Police Command confirmed that Agbor and his wife responded to its invitation regarding the allegations. According to the police spokesperson, Eitokpah Sunday, both parties expressed willingness to resolve their differences during the meeting.

The police added that the lawmaker has been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the state Attorney-General for legal advice once investigations are completed.

Agbor was earlier suspended indefinitely by the state assembly over the alleged assault, with the legislature stating that such conduct contradicts the ethical standards expected of public officials. A committee has also been set up to investigate the matter and present its findings for further legislative action.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
