LP Crisis: State Chairmen Forum Demands Immediate Sanction Of Nenadi Usman By INEC.

The Labour Party State Chairmen Forum has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction Senator Nenadi Usman and her group.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Forum urged INEC to reject a memo allegedly sent by the party’s Caretaker Committee proposing a fresh congress on 26 March 2026.

In a statement, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, said the memo violates the party constitution and other applicable laws.

The forum comprises all state chairmen elected in Labour Party congresses held on 6 December 2025.

Recall that INEC had previously denied Nenadi’s request to hold new congresses and warned that the Caretaker Committee has no authority to act on behalf of the party.

Ifoh reiterated that Nenadi was never a member of the Labour Party and argued that her repeated ignorance of the party constitution, as reflected in her communications with INEC, underscores the illegitimacy of her actions.

“For instance, only the National Executive Council (NEC) is empowered by the party constitution to set the date, time, and rules for conducting congresses.

“Furthermore, State, Local Government, and Ward executives serve four-year terms. Any notice for new congresses is invalid while the tenure of those elected in December 2025 is still active. This was the main point in INEC’s letter to her dated 16 February 2026,” the statement added.

The State Chairmen Forum also called on INEC to consider appointing an officer to oversee Labour Party activities.

The statement added: “The memo sent by Senator Usman to INEC on 3 March, announcing a new congress, is invalid and ‘dead on arrival.’ INEC’s letter of 16 February clearly stated that it does not recognize any NEC convened by the Caretaker Committee for dissolving or electing new executives.

“It is both unlawful and unprecedented for a caretaker committee to dismiss duly elected party executives and unilaterally appoint a new committee in their place.

“Nigeria is not a lawless nation. Under the Labour Party constitution, the tenure of elected officers is protected, and no provision grants a caretaker committee the power to dissolve elected party structures nationwide.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
