2027 Shake-Up: Bala Mohammed & Seyi Makinde Poised To Quit PDP.

Published

Barely any last-minute changes are expected as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde prepare to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before April, News reports.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The PDP has been rocked by defections amid its prolonged leadership crisis, with key figures abandoning the party. A source familiar with developments told DAILY POST that Bala Mohammed is moving to the ruling APC, while Makinde is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“All the PDP leaders are leaving. Bala Mohammed is already in APC, Makinde is on his way to ADC,” the source said anonymously.

How Governors Have Left PDP

Since the 2023 general elections, nine PDP governors have defected, citing irreconcilable disputes within the party:

  • April 2025 – Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori joined APC

  • June 2025 – Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno switched to APC

  • October 2025 – Enugu Governor Peter Mbah defected to APC

  • November 2025 – Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri moved to APC

  • December 2025 – Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara decamped to APC

  • January 2026 – Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas, and Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri all left PDP for APC

  • December 2025 – Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke joined the Accord Party

Additionally, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has indicated plans to leave PDP for APC, with reports suggesting he will be officially received into the party after Eid-el-Kabir.

Both federal and state lawmakers have also been defecting. The Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre reported that up to January 2026, 66 PDP federal lawmakers switched to APC, including 19 senators and 47 House members.

Defections Linked to INEC Deadline

Politicians planning to change parties are under pressure to complete their moves before April, following a new electoral timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Presidential and National Assembly elections are set for January 16, 2027, with governorship and state assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

Party primaries, including dispute resolution, are scheduled from April 23 to May 30, 2026, and political parties must submit membership registers to INEC between April 1 and April 21, 2026, as required by the Electoral Act, 2026.

PDP May Skip 2027 Presidential Election

Indications suggest the PDP could boycott the 2027 presidential election due to its ongoing leadership dispute. Party chieftain Omenka Thomas told DAILY POST that litigation over the Ibadan convention may not be resolved before the primaries, making it risky for any faction to nominate a candidate.

“The primary election is around the corner, and we don’t even know what the Appeal Court will decide. Any candidate nominated now could face legal challenges, so nobody wants to waste resources,” he said.

The Court of Appeal in Ibadan recently urged PDP factions to resolve their differences amicably, describing the crisis as a “family dispute gone sour.” Meanwhile, the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal is expected to deliver judgment on the party’s consolidated appeals later this week.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Michael Samuel, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, whom he reportedly met through social media.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed that the suspect and the deceased initially connected online and developed a friendship after communicating for several months.

According to Daaor, Samuel later invited the woman to his residence in the Ahor area of Benin City, where he allegedly stabbed her to death with a knife.

The police commissioner stated that the suspect had been taken into custody and would be charged in court after investigations were concluded.

However, Samuel has offered a different account of the incident, claiming that the woman was injured during a struggle over a knife following an argument between them.

Speaking in an interview, the 21-year-old insisted that he did not intend to kill her.

“I didn’t mean to kill her, but she got injured in the process of struggling with her for the knife during an argument,” he said.

The suspect explained that he had met the woman on social media and that their friendship developed over several months of online conversations before she decided to visit him.

He said they were initially having a discussion at his residence, but the conversation eventually escalated into an argument.

“On the day she came to my house, we were discussing, but the discussion snowballed into an argument. In the process, she picked up a knife and intended to stab me,” he claimed.

Samuel further alleged that the woman sustained an injury to her neck while they were struggling over the knife.

He maintained that he attempted to save her after she was injured but was unable to prevent her death.

“I didn’t mean to kill her. I tried to save her after she was injured, but she died,” he said.

The police are expected to conclude their investigation before proceeding with the case in court.
