The acting chairman of PDP in Bayelsa, George Turnah, made the declaration during the party’s local government congress in Ogbia over the weekend.

Turnah praised party members for their massive turnout, describing the congress as “carnival-like” and a clear sign of the PDP’s enduring strength in the state. He highlighted the party’s historic role in advancing the political profile of the Ogbia people, including producing Nigeria’s former president.

“For us in Ogbia, this is just a congress, but the support here shows that the PDP remains on the ground. This party has given Ogbia everything in politics — a deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president, and ultimately a president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Turnah stressed that the people of Ogbia would not abandon the PDP despite its current difficulties. “We will continue to stand by the PDP because we are a grateful people,” he added.

He also commended the peaceful conduct of the congress across Ogbia and the state’s other local government areas, noting that reports indicated orderly proceedings in all eight centres. Turnah praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the exercise and recognized delegates who traveled from all 105 wards to participate.

Turnah lauded PDP national leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his efforts to strengthen the party as an opposition platform, and thanked Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri for maintaining a peaceful environment that allowed political activities to proceed smoothly.

“We appreciate the governor and all political leaders in Bayelsa for creating this atmosphere. Other states should learn from Bayelsa’s tolerance,” he said.

He concluded by urging PDP members in Ogbia and across the state to remain committed to the party. “Keep faith with the PDP and keep hope alive — joy is coming,” Turnah said.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.
