“Forget It” – Shittu Rejects Adelabu ‘Anointed Candidate’ Rumour.

Published

A former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has dismissed claims that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, could emerge as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Shittu’s reaction follows speculation that Adelabu may step down from his ministerial position to pursue his governorship ambition on the APC platform.

Reports indicate that, unless there is a last-minute change, Adelabu could resign his appointment in the coming weeks to formally join the race for the party’s governorship ticket.

However, speaking in an interview, Shittu, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, insisted that no aspirant has been assured of the APC ticket.

He explained that the method the party will adopt in selecting its candidate—whether through consensus or indirect primaries—has not yet been determined, stressing that the final decision will rest with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Shittu, there is nothing in Tinubu’s actions or public signals suggesting that the president has endorsed any particular aspirant.

“The presidency will decide. No one can predict what will eventually happen. Also, nobody can boldly claim that the APC governorship ticket has been promised to them,” he said.

Speaking further, Shittu dismissed suggestions that Adelabu could emerge as the party’s preferred candidate.

“He is not the only person interested in the race. Forget the rumours that he will become the APC’s anointed candidate. There is nothing like that, I can assure you,” he added.

He noted that such assumptions may be based on Adelabu’s current position as a minister, but argued that holding a ministerial office does not automatically translate into political endorsement.

“People are making that assumption because he is a minister now. But I was also a minister before. In fact, I was the only minister from Oyo State during Buhari’s administration,” he said.

Shittu also expressed optimism that the APC would regain control of Oyo State after the tenure of the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He confidently stated that the PDP would lose the state in the next election cycle.

The former coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council added that the race for the APC governorship ticket would be intense, revealing that several other aspirants are preparing to join the contest.

According to him, aside from himself and Adelabu, other prominent figures expected to challenge for the ticket include Sharafadeen Alli, Teslim Folarin, and Remi Oseni.

Although Alli has not officially declared his intention, Shittu said indications suggest he may join the race, adding that several other aspirants are also likely to emerge.

“In total, we may have about 11 aspirants contesting for the ticket,” he said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
