Super Eagles goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has expressed relief after Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars cleared him of match-fixing allegations following an internal review.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obasogie had been suspended for three months on February 27 after concerns were raised by supporters, club officials, and stakeholders over a series of costly errors in matches against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup, as well as league games against Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.

However, the club announced on Saturday that its disciplinary committee found no evidence of wrongdoing. In a statement signed by Chief Executive Jonathan Kassano, Singida said the investigation concluded that the incidents were purely technical errors within the game, with no signs of manipulation or gambling.

“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the statement read. The club noted that Obasogie had apologised for the mistakes and pledged to work on improving his performance.

Following the review, the suspension was lifted, allowing Obasogie to return to training and matches.

In a video shared on Facebook, Obasogie thanked everyone who supported him through the ordeal. “I am so happy everything against the allegation has been resolved. I want to say a big thank you to everybody who stood by me, prayed for me, and wished me well. I am really happy and grateful everything has been cleared,” he said.

He also praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for backing him and singled out Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, for his support. Obasogie further thanked former club Bendel Insurance, his family, the media, and Singida officials for ensuring the allegations were properly investigated.

“I want to say a big thank you to my team, who conducted their investigation, found nothing, and decided to vindicate me. The love is so massive,” he added.

Obasogie joined Singida in 2025 from Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema and has been a regular in the Super Eagles squad. He was part of Nigeria’s team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team finished third, serving as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.

This case makes him the second Nigerian goalkeeper linked to match-fixing controversies in recent years. In 2025, Maduka Okoye was suspended for two months in Italy following a betting scandal.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.

The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
