The instruction was issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, following the release of the revised 2027 election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the updated schedule, presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are slated for February 6, 2027.

Political parties are expected to begin their primary elections from April 23, 2026.

Usman explained that the directive is aimed at ensuring adherence to electoral regulations, which require public officials seeking elective offices to resign their appointments at least one month before their party primaries.

He advised all affected appointees to submit their resignation letters before the March 23 deadline to avoid breaching electoral guidelines.

According to the SSG, all political appointees and government officials interested in contesting elective positions should note that party primaries are scheduled to commence on April 23, 2026. He stressed that, in line with this timeline, they must resign their appointments by March 23, 2026, to meet the mandatory one-month resignation requirement before pursuing elective offices.

Usman also reiterated the Niger State Government’s commitment to respecting the rule of law and ensuring that all political processes comply strictly with constitutional and electoral provisions.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
