Yakubu described the project as a landmark achievement that reflects Nigeria’s strong leadership and the benefits of strategic international partnerships. He noted that the bypass, which had been abandoned for years, is now being revitalised under Tinubu’s administration and executed efficiently by China Harbour. According to him, the project is already reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion, and boosting economic activities between Nasarawa State and Benue State. “This is a clear demonstration of how visionary leadership and committed partners can deliver results that directly improve the lives of our people,” he said.

He also highlighted that the bypass has strengthened security along the corridor, as the increased presence of workers and equipment has deterred criminal activities. “Beyond the economic benefits, this project is restoring peace of mind to our communities,” Yakubu added.

During an inspection tour, Minister of Works David Umahi, representing the President, reiterated that the bypass is part of a wider infrastructure agenda aimed at modernising Nigeria’s highways. The Federal Controller of Works, Manri Ishiaku, also commended China Harbour’s efficiency, describing the bypass as a “game-changer” for the North-Central region.

Yakubu emphasised the significance of Nigeria’s partnership with China, noting that projects like the Shabu–Lafia–Makurdi bypass demonstrate tangible results of bilateral cooperation. He lauded President Tinubu for his determination to complete abandoned projects, saying such resolve restores public confidence in government’s ability to deliver.

Residents of Nasarawa and Benue States have expressed optimism about the bypass, expecting it to transform daily life. Traders anticipate easier access to markets, farmers look forward to smoother transportation of produce, and commuters hope for reduced travel stress. Community leaders described the project as a long-awaited intervention that will boost local economies, foster regional integration, and enhance safety along the corridor.

With construction progressing ahead of schedule, Hon. Yakubu’s commendation underscores a broader message: Nigeria can deliver world-class infrastructure when leadership is decisive, partnerships are respected, and contractors are held accountable, while also improving the security and wellbeing of communities.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
