US-Iran War Enters Second Week: Airports Bombed, Missiles Fired.

Published

on

United States President Donald Trump has warned of intensified military strikes against Iran, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed that his country would never surrender despite ongoing US and Israeli bombardments.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The escalation follows fresh air raids that reportedly set parts of Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport ablaze as the conflict entered its second week.

Trump issued the threat via his Truth Social platform on Saturday, hinting at potential attacks on additional targets. In his post, he stated:
“Today, Iran will be hit very hard! Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behavior, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time.”

Israeli authorities confirmed major strikes, hitting a military academy, an underground command centre, and a missile storage facility. Pre-dawn images showed flames and thick smoke rising from Tehran’s airport.

In response, Pezeshkian rejected calls for “unconditional surrender,” declaring in a state TV broadcast:
“Iran’s enemies must take their wish for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves.”

Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes across the region, triggering air raid alerts and explosions in Jerusalem and Gulf cities, including Dubai and Manama. Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at a US air base near Riyadh, while the United Arab Emirates reported intercepting 15 missiles and 119 drones, although one struck near Dubai airport. Jordan also accused Iran of targeting key installations within its borders.

Amid tensions, Pezeshkian assured Gulf nations hosting US bases that they would not be targeted unless attacks originated from their territories. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for firing on the oil tanker Prima in the Gulf, effectively closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict began with joint US and Israeli air strikes last Saturday, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Fighting has since spread to Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. Israeli strikes have intensified in Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting areas controlled by the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun that the country would pay a “very heavy price” if Hezbollah is not disarmed.

Iran’s health ministry reported at least 926 civilian deaths and about 6,000 injuries since the conflict began, while Lebanon reported at least 217 fatalities from Israeli strikes.

The war has also disrupted global markets, driving up crude oil prices and sending stock markets lower amid fears the conflict may continue for weeks.

Iran’s UN ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani emphasized that Washington would have no role in selecting Iran’s next supreme leader, saying the process would follow the country’s constitutional procedures. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has called for an immediate ceasefire.

The conflict has already claimed six US service members’ lives, with Trump expected to attend a transfer ceremony for their remains at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Saturday.

Published

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
