No Rift With Oshiomhole, Edo APC United, Ready To Deliver 3.5 Million Votes For Tinubu – Tenebe
Jarret Tenebe, the re-elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has expressed confidence that the party can mobilize around 3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a recent interview, Tenebe dismissed reports of a rift between him and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, insisting that the APC in the state remains united.
He also defended the Federal Government’s economic and security policies, noting that while reforms may be challenging, they are necessary for long-term progress.
Addressing speculation about tensions within Edo APC ahead of the party’s congresses, Tenebe described the reports as unfounded, stressing that the party leadership fully supports Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“The leader of the party in Edo is Governor Monday Okpebholo. The suggestion that Senator Oshiomhole and I are not working together is false,” he told Vanguard.
Tenebe explained that the only disagreement with Oshiomhole occurred during the party primaries when he insisted on due process. “After the primaries, we campaigned together and have been working harmoniously since. There are no cracks in the party,” he said.
He added that the party would not replace what he described as a “winning team.” “We fought to ensure we produced a good governor. Now, our duty is to support him to succeed,” he said.
Regarding the upcoming party congress in Edo, Tenebe expressed confidence that it would proceed smoothly. He revealed that consultations had been concluded and he had received endorsements to continue as chairman. “Our relationship with Senator Oshiomhole remains cordial. He is a respected leader in the state,” Tenebe noted.
Responding to claims that some members were sidelined after the electoral victory, Tenebe rejected the allegations, emphasizing that politics is dynamic and all willing contributors should be welcomed.
He praised Governor Okpebholo for his reputation for inclusiveness, noting, “He was chosen because he is not controversial and has no entrenched political enemies. Governance must not be slowed by vendetta or political payback. Politics should not be about bitterness. After elections, we must move forward.”
On the 2027 presidential election, Tenebe insisted that the target of 3.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo is achievable. “It is feasible. Edo has about three million registered voters, many residing outside the state. We are engaging them to return and exercise their civic rights,” he said.
He added that the APC is also attracting members from opposition parties. “Labour Party and PDP structures at the local level are showing interest in joining APC. The opposition is already weakened, and we aim to improve on our previous performance,” Tenebe said.
Addressing concerns that assisting supporters with logistics amounts to inducement, Tenebe rejected the claim. “Mobilising supporters is not vote buying. If people are registered in Edo and choose to return home to vote, that is their civic right,” he said.
He dismissed fears that opposition defections weaken democracy. “It is not the ruling party’s responsibility to sustain the opposition. The constitution guarantees freedom of association. People are free to join APC if they choose,” he said, adding, “Politics is about persuasion and performance. The opposition must make itself attractive.”
On economic hardships, Tenebe acknowledged the challenges Nigerians face but defended the administration’s reforms. “Economic hardship is real, but there are signs of improvement. Food prices are gradually stabilizing. The President inherited serious structural challenges, including insecurity that disrupted farming. Reforms are painful but necessary,” he said.
He stressed that Nigeria’s security issues predate the current government, but noted that the administration is addressing them directly. “The government is strengthening security architecture and restoring confidence,” Tenebe said.
