Kuku made the appeal during the association’s first annual meeting for persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) in Ikorodu West, held on Saturday at the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) secretariat in Lagos.

The call comes shortly after the Lagos State Government announced the appointment of secretaries and supervisors across its 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs.

According to Kuku, involving members of the deaf community and other persons with disabilities in local government leadership positions would ensure their welfare is properly addressed. He added that such appointments would also strengthen the protection of disability rights and improve policies affecting PLWDs.

“Providing our members the opportunity to serve in these roles will foster stronger collaboration between government and the disability community. It will also raise awareness about environmental accessibility and ensure that the needs of persons with disabilities are fully considered. Most importantly, it will promote inclusion in the formulation and implementation of local government programmes and policies,” he said.

Kuku highlighted that many members of the association are qualified professionals, with several holding university degrees in various fields.

He also commended the Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, for supporting persons with disabilities and providing a platform for them to voice their concerns. However, Kuku urged the council chairman to further enhance initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and inclusion of people living with disabilities in the area.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
