2027: Tuggar, Adelabu, Pate Consider Leaving Tinubu’s Cabinet For Political Moves.

According to The Punch, at least four ministers are already positioning themselves for state-level elections, especially in states where incumbent governors will complete their constitutionally permitted two terms by 2027.

Those reportedly considering the move include Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare; Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently released an updated election timetable, fixing party primaries between April 22 and May 20. Under electoral regulations, individuals holding appointed offices are required to resign before taking part in party primaries.

Unless there is a last-minute change, Adelabu is expected to leave his ministerial role in the coming weeks to seek the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

He is believed to be preparing for another bid for the Oyo governorship after losing the 2023 election to Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The report also noted that several political figures have begun lobbying for the ministerial position should Adelabu vacate the office.

An aide to the minister, Femi Awogboro, confirmed Adelabu’s intention to contest the governorship race but clarified that the president has not yet directed him to resign.

“As of now, the President has not instructed Adelabu to step down as minister. Only the President can make that decision, and until then, Adelabu will continue carrying out his duties. However, he is certainly preparing to contest for the Oyo governorship seat,” Awogboro said.

He added that the minister would step down at the appropriate time to pursue his political ambition.

Meanwhile, there are indications that Pate and Tuggar may both be interested in contesting the governorship election in Bauchi State.

Pate, who is from Mainari village in Ajili Ward of Misau Local Government Area, previously contested the governorship position.

The Coordinator of the Pate Media Centre in Dass Local Government Area, Ibrahim Abdulhamid, stated that while nothing official has been announced, signs suggest the minister has accepted to run following pressure from supporters.

Abdulhamid explained that a delegation of Bauchi indigenes who believe in Pate’s leadership visited him in Abuja to persuade him to join the race.

“A group from Bauchi who trust his ability travelled to Abuja to encourage him to contest the governorship, and he has accepted the challenge,” Abdulhamid said.

Tuggar, who hails from Udubo in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, is also reportedly considering a bid for the governorship seat.

His Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, confirmed the minister’s interest.

“The minister is interested and has the ambition to contest for the governorship seat of Bauchi State,” Abdulkadir said.

When asked about when Tuggar might resign from his ministerial role, Abdulkadir noted that he would comply with the timetable released by INEC.

A source further disclosed that Onyejeocha may be planning a return to the National Assembly.

“She served four terms in the House of Representatives and is considering a return,” the source said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.

The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.

When Akpan sought the court’s permission to adopt his client’s processes, Justice Abdulmalik informed him that the documents had already been deemed adopted.
