Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to move away from what she described as an “entitlement mentality,” urging citizens to embrace responsibility, integrity, and service in all aspects of their lives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The statement, issued on Thursday by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, said the First Lady made the remarks while hosting an interfaith Breaking of Fast (Iftar/Lent) for women representing various sectors across the country.

During the event, she highlighted the significance of the overlap between the Muslim Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season, saying it conveys a powerful message of unity and peaceful coexistence for the nation.

“Today is indeed a great day—a day God created for us to come together, for women from diverse backgrounds. With the Ramadan fast and Lenten season beginning simultaneously, it felt like God was speaking to us as a nation,” she said.

She observed that, despite efforts by some to create religious divisions, Nigerians have a long history of living peacefully across faiths.

“Recently, there have been attempts to target our religious beliefs… But Nigerians, for the most part, coexist harmoniously. Many of us are in interfaith marriages, and we have lived together in peace for years. My husband and I, for almost 40 years,” she added.

Drawing from her own experience, Tinubu spoke of her nearly four-decade marriage to Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that mutual respect and understanding have been key to sustaining their relationship.

“I cannot recall a time when we raised our voices at each other—maybe twice in 40 years. We have been mature and respectful, and I believe that is the best way to live together,” she said.

The First Lady reiterated her call for Nigerians to shed an “entitlement mentality” and focus on positively contributing to society. She also encouraged women whose spouses hold public office, as well as women in leadership positions, to recognise their role in promoting responsible governance and national development.

“Most women here either hold their own positions or are married to public office holders… as a wife, you have an important role to play,” she said.

She further emphasised the importance of mentoring younger generations, noting that Nigeria’s future depends on the values and guidance passed on to them.

At the event, Prof. Ganiyat Adejoke Adesina-Uthman, a Director at the National Open University of Nigeria, delivered a lecture on “Serving with Excellence, Compassion and Integrity in Public Life.” She raised concerns about a crisis of trust in public office and stressed that integrity is a non-negotiable value for anyone in public service.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
