United States President Donald Trump reignited football’s long-standing debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after telling Messi how much he and his family admire Ronaldo during a White House reception.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Messi visited the White House alongside his Inter Miami teammates to celebrate their 2025 MLS Cup victory. The Argentine superstar was introduced in the Oval Office and greeted Trump with a handshake.

“It’s my privilege to say what no other president has ever said before: welcome to the White House, Lionel Messi,” Trump said.

The moment quickly turned into a nod to the iconic Messi versus Ronaldo rivalry that has divided football fans worldwide for nearly two decades.

Trump mentioned that his son Barron is a big fan of Messi while also praising Ronaldo. “He (Barron) is a big fan of yours,” Trump told Messi. “He thinks you’re just a great person. He’s a tremendous fan of yours, as well as a gentleman named Ronaldo. Cristiano is a great athlete—some big champions, some great, great athletes in that sport.”

Messi’s White House visit follows a similar reception for Ronaldo in November 2025. The two players’ rivalry defined an era of football, especially during their time in Spain when Messi led FC Barcelona and Ronaldo starred for Real Madrid. Their battles for titles and Ballon d’Or awards pushed both to historic heights.

Messi has been celebrated for his dribbling, creativity, and vision, while Ronaldo is renowned for his power, athleticism, and prolific goal-scoring.

Trump also praised Messi’s accomplishments since moving to the United States. “Leo claimed the 47th trophy of his incredible career, the most of all time,” the president said. “You could have gone anywhere in the world, any team in the world, and you chose Miami. I just want to thank you for bringing us all on this ride.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
