Zamfara Gov To Dump PDP For APC, May Move After Eid-el-Kabir Celebration
Speculation is mounting over the political future of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, amid reports that he may be considering a defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to sources, APC leaders in Abuja have been courting the governor ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reports suggest that he has been offered an automatic governorship ticket for 2027 if he joins the ruling party.
Under the proposed arrangement, the governor is said to be entitled to 40 percent of elective and political appointments in the state, while the remaining 60 percent would be allocated among other APC stakeholders. He is reportedly expected to formally join the APC shortly after the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
A source within the APC, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that negotiations are ongoing. “Governor Lawal has accepted the offer to leave PDP and join our party,” the source said.
However, the source noted that some APC members are uneasy about the potential defection. “Many of us are not celebrating this because we will lose positions, but the plan was made at the top. Regardless, I am confident the party will reclaim Zamfara State in 2027 with or without Governor Lawal. There’s nothing to celebrate,” the source added.
The reports come amid a leadership crisis within the PDP following its controversial November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced Tanimu Turaki as party chairman. While several PDP governors supported Turaki, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, opposed his emergence.
A high court in Ibadan later declared the convention illegal, prompting the PDP to appeal for a final ruling.
Addressing PDP stakeholders at the Government House in Gusau, Governor Lawal said his future in the party would depend on the Appeal Court’s verdict regarding the legality of Turaki’s leadership and the Ibadan convention.
Zamfara PDP spokesperson Haliru Andi confirmed that the governor’s party status hinges on the resolution of the ongoing legal dispute. “As long as the PDP remains the legitimate political party in Nigeria, Governor Lawal will stay in the party. We are awaiting the Appeal Court’s verdict on Turaki’s leadership and the Ibadan convention,” he said.
Andi added that PDP stakeholders and supporters in Zamfara are not considering joining another party unless the internal crisis remains unresolved.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
