He also sanctioned the proposed demolition of the Carter Bridge in Lagos and the development of a redesigned replacement structure.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this known on Wednesday.

According to Umahi, the approved projects include the completion of the Suleja–Minna Road. The contract was initially awarded to Salini Construction Company but was later revoked over poor performance, with only 10 kilometres completed. The government has now decided to finish the remaining 71 kilometres of the dual carriageway. One carriageway has been awarded to China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) at a cost of ₦91 billion, while the second carriageway has received clearance from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Umahi also disclosed that ₦5.6 billion has been approved for the design and costing of a new Carter Bridge in Lagos. He explained that technical assessments and stakeholder consultations determined that the existing bridge can no longer be rehabilitated and must be demolished and replaced. Advanced Engineering Consultants has been engaged to handle the detailed design and cost evaluation ahead of the procurement process.

Another project approved is the review and restructuring of the 132-kilometre Kano–Kongolam Road, a tax credit initiative first awarded in 2022. The road, which connects Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states, was originally planned as an asphalt carriageway but has now been redesigned as a three-lane concrete road. The upgraded plan will feature solar-powered streetlights and CCTV systems to strengthen security. The revised cost stands at ₦334 billion.

The president also approved the reconstruction of the Abuja–Lokoja Road after contracts previously awarded to two contractors were terminated for underperformance. The affected 86-kilometre stretch will now be rebuilt using reinforced concrete and handled by five contractors, including Julius Berger, at an estimated cost of ₦146 billion.

Additionally, the 103-kilometre Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa dual carriageway, valued at ₦427 billion, will be reconstructed. Umahi noted that although the project was awarded by the previous administration, little progress had been recorded before the contract was reviewed and re-awarded.

Tinubu also approved Phase Two of the Keffi–Nasarawa–Abaji Road rehabilitation, covering 129.3 kilometres at a cost of ₦203 billion. Umahi said the project would boost connectivity between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.

The minister further revealed that the federal government plans to commission at least four major road projects in each of the six geopolitical zones by May 15.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
