Human Trafficking In Ogun: 100 Victims Rescued, 70 Suspects Arrested – NAPTIP.
The Ogun State Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Abosede Jimoh, has raised alarm over the alarming increase in human trafficking within the state. She revealed that from late 2023 to date, the agency has received at least 100 victims and 70 suspects.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Jimoh explained that many of the victims were lured under the pretense of employment and subjected to sexual exploitation. She lamented that some rescued underage victims reported being forced to engage in sexual acts with 15 to 20 men daily, and in some cases, with animals.
Her remarks came during a sensitization program organized by the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in collaboration with the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA). The event, focused on human trafficking and irregular migration, took place at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
The NAPTIP Commander added that beyond underage children, women have increasingly fallen victim to trafficking and are being transported to destinations such as Cairo. She stated that upon receiving victims, the agency provides counseling, medical care, empowerment programs, and reintegration into society.
“Victims are moved from one location to another—village to rural, rural to urban, and sometimes outside the country—for sexual exploitation. They are not only made to sleep with men but also with animals. Since NAPTIP began operations in Ogun State two and a half years ago, we have handled at least 70 suspects and 100 victims of human trafficking.
“Imagine a girl who should be in school, forced to sleep with 20 men daily. This is not fiction; such cases are real, and we handle them daily. Currently, nine cases are in court, three have been prosecuted, and convictions secured, while others remain under investigation,” she said.
Earlier, the Chairperson of POWA Ogun State Chapter, Mrs. Olubusola Lanre-Ogunlowo, reaffirmed the association’s dedication to creating opportunities for women and youth through empowerment and skills training. She urged market women and community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through proper channels.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
