FAAN Launches Four New Cashless Payment Options At Airports.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has rolled out four digital payment options for airport access gates nationwide as part of its “Operation Go Cashless” initiative.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The authority said the move aims to eliminate cash transactions, boost operational efficiency, and support Nigeria’s broader shift toward a cashless economy.
In a statement on its official account on Tuesday, FAAN listed the approved payment channels available to motorists and airport users.
Four Approved Payment Options:

FAAN Go Cashless Card – Touted as “the fastest and most seamless payment option.”

E-Tag – For frequent users, allowing automatic gate deductions without stopping.

VIP Sticker – For authorized vehicles with approved access.

ATM/Debit Card via POS – Available on-site, though processing may be affected by banking network delays.
FAAN noted, “To ensure smooth and efficient access, the following payment options are available.”
The authority also stated that Go Cashless Cards can be obtained at commercial offices and designated access gates nationwide, with registration and card management available online via FAAN’s portal.
The cashless policy officially began on March 1, 2026, prohibiting cash payments at all FAAN pay points, including toll gates, car parks, and executive lounges.
Launched in partnership with Paystack, the initiative was first announced in September 2025 and initially applied at major hubs such as Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The policy aligns with directives from the Central Bank of Nigeria aimed at promoting electronic payments nationwide.
However, the first day of full implementation saw congestion and confusion at Lagos and Abuja airports. Heavy traffic at entry gates reportedly caused delays, with some passengers missing flights.
Motorists without prepaid cards had to rely on POS terminals, leading to slow processing and long queues. Network issues further compounded the delays, frustrating some airport users.
FAAN assured that the initiative would eventually improve service delivery, emphasizing that the system is designed to make transactions “faster, safer, and more convenient” while potentially increasing revenue by up to 75% through better transparency and reduced cash handling.
The authority urged frequent airport users to preload their Go Cashless cards in advance to avoid delays.
As the new cashless system takes hold, airport users are adjusting to a landscape where cash is no longer accepted at Nigeria’s major gateways.

He added that the necessary commercial and economic environment was never established, and empty buildings were commissioned without securing anchor tenants beforehand.
