According to an NDLEA statement, Chidiebere was arrested after operatives uncovered drug shipments connected to him at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. “After 13 years in hiding, notorious drug kingpin Reginald Peter Chidiebere has been taken into custody following the seizure of large consignments of cocaine and heroin linked to him by NDLEA operatives at MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos,” the agency said.

Chidiebere was initially arrested in 2013 over cocaine shipments into Nigeria and arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in case FHC/L/187c/2923. He was granted bail but jumped bail shortly after, remaining at large for years.

In February 2024, his name resurfaced as one of the masterminds behind a shipment of 49.7 kilograms of heroin imported from South Africa, intercepted by NDLEA operatives at Lagos airport. During a follow-up operation on February 19, 2024, at his Golden Platinum Hotel & Suites in Lagos, an additional 2.2 kilograms of heroin were recovered from a guest, Igbuanugo Ebuka ThankGod. Following this, Chidiebere went underground.

The agency later secured interim forfeiture of his hotel and froze all bank accounts linked to him since 2024. Unable to sustain life on the run, Chidiebere surrendered to the NDLEA on February 13, 2026, and is now in custody to face pending charges from his 2013 bail-jumping and new charges related to the 2024 heroin consignments.

In related operations, NDLEA dismantled a clandestine drug lab in Imo State on February 25, 2026, seizing 18.4 kilograms of methamphetamine along with precursor chemicals and production equipment. At Lagos’ Seme Border, a Togolese woman, Hadiza Musa, was intercepted on February 27 with 5,000 tramadol pills concealed in her luggage. That same week, 1,040 kilograms of skunk were recovered from an unfinished building in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
