Electoral Act: Stop Undermining Nigeria’s Democracy, Okechukwu Tells Opposition.
Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned opposition parties against undermining and demonizing Nigeria’s democracy through “scaremongering.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to journalists in Enugu over the weekend, Okechukwu urged opposition leaders to avoid statements that could discourage voter participation or weaken democratic institutions. He noted that democracy suffers when political actors deploy negative narratives that erode public confidence in the electoral process.
Okechukwu highlighted the example of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his nationwide mobilisation of supporters and adherence to internal party democracy, including stepping aside for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in line with zoning conventions. He argued that opposition leaders should focus on strategic organisation rather than blame games or alarmist rhetoric.
Acknowledging that the Electoral Act 2026 may have flaws, Okechukwu stressed that it represents progress toward real-time election result transmission compared to the repealed 2022 Act. He explained the key difference in simple terms: under the 2022 Act, presiding officers were only required to “transfer results as prescribed by INEC” without mandating electronic transmission. In contrast, the 2026 Act mandates electronic transmission of polling unit results to the IReV portal after Form EC8A is signed, with a fallback allowing the hand-signed Form EC8A to serve as the legal source if transmission fails.
Okechukwu further emphasised that democracy is evolutionary, not revolutionary, and encouraged opposition leaders to learn from the APC’s approach to voter mobilisation and adherence to rotation conventions, rather than attacking democratic processes.
“Democracy requires more than legislation; it demands patriotism, patience, commitment, integrity, and gradual institutional strengthening,” he said.
Addressing fears that the APC is plotting a one-party state, Okechukwu dismissed the claim and placed responsibility on anti-democratic actors within the former PDP leadership, who he said violated rotation and zoning norms during the 2022 presidential primary.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
