20 Killed As Military Plane Carrying Cash Crashes In Bolivia.
At least 20 people were killed when a Bolivian military cargo plane carrying banknotes crashed while attempting to land near the capital, La Paz, authorities said Friday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, skidded off the runway at El Alto International Airport and slammed into a busy avenue, destroying several vehicles and damaging trucks.
Videos from the scene showed wreckage scattered across the road, while bystanders scrambled to pick up banknotes strewn from the crash. Police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd. Authorities later set the recovered cash on fire at the site.
The cause of the crash remains unclear, though witnesses reported severe weather at the time. “A heavy hailstorm was falling and there was lightning when the plane went down,” said Cristina Choque, a 60-year-old vendor whose car was hit by debris. She added, “The tyre is what fell on top of us… my daughter is injured, she has a head wound.”
Colonel Rene Tambo, head of the police homicide division in El Alto, confirmed “about 20, maybe a few more” fatalities, while Colonel Pavel Tovar of the National Fire Department initially estimated 15–16 deaths.
Bolivia’s health ministry reported that at least 28 people were injured in the crash. Fatalities occurred both at the airport and along the avenue where the aircraft struck multiple vehicles.
NAABOL, the Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports Authority, said the C-130 Hercules had departed from Santa Cruz and crashed during its landing at El Alto, which has since suspended operations.
The Defence Ministry announced it will launch a full investigation and cautioned that the transported money had no official serial numbers and “has no legal or purchasing power.” Possessing or using it constitutes a criminal offence.
The La Paz Prosecutor’s Office said reports had emerged of businesses being targeted by opportunistic criminals during the chaos. “Twelve people have been arrested” for questioning, prosecutor Luis Carlos Torres said.
Hospitals in El Alto have called for blood donations to treat the injured.
La Paz, located about 3,650 metres above sea level and surrounded by the Andes, is the world’s highest administrative capital.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
