This comes after the Senate approved electronic transmission of election results while retaining manual collation as a backup. President Bola Tinubu also signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law just 24 hours after it was passed by the National Assembly.

On the development, Obi said, “Integrity, not amendments, will determine the credibility of the 2027 elections. Pushing major electoral reforms on the eve of an election is challenging without unity among opposition parties and civil society. The opposition must act as a watchdog and respond whenever government decisions threaten public confidence.”
