Justice Yeliam Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed May 8, 2026, to deliver a ruling on the no-case submission filed by former Niger State governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and his co-defendant, Umar Muhammed Nasko.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The matter came up on Thursday, February 26, 2026, for the adoption of final written addresses by counsel. Faruk Abdallah appeared for the prosecution, Y. Kalamu represented the first defendant, while Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, stood in for the second defendant.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Aliyu alongside Nasko, a former Commissioner for Environment, Parks, Gardens and Forest Resources, on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, money laundering, and the alleged diversion of ecological funds amounting to ₦1,509,791,200.00.

Responding to the defendants’ no-case submissions, the prosecution informed the court that its reply was filed on February 5, 2026. Counsel noted that the defendants were originally arraigned on April 28, 2017, on charges related to conspiracy and money laundering.

The prosecution further told the court that it called 11 witnesses and tendered several exhibits in support of its case.

According to the prosecution, after it closed its case, the first defendant filed a written no-case submission on December 18, 2025, prompting the filing of a formal response. Similarly, the second defendant filed his own no-case submission on November 23, 2025.

After hearing the parties, Justice Bogoro adjourned the case to May 8, 2026, for ruling on the applications.

Aliyu served as Governor of Niger State for two terms between 2007 and 2015.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
