Tension erupted on Thursday at the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, after armed police officers allegedly moved to rearrest Nigerian businesswoman, Tracyniter Nicholas Ohiri, moments after she was granted bail.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ohiri had earlier been detained over alleged defamatory statements concerning the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

She was arraigned before Magistrate Ibraheem Ope, who admitted her to bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like amount. Her legal team, led by Abubakar Marshal, reportedly met the bail conditions.

Despite this, heavily armed officers from the FCT Command were said to have stationed a Hilux vehicle around the court premises in an attempt to take her back into custody shortly after the bail was perfected.

Reports indicated that the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, Akin Fakorede, allegedly secured a fresh detention warrant to enable her transfer to the Keffi Correctional Centre.

The situation sparked outrage among activists and supporters who had gathered at the court in solidarity with Ohiri. They argued that she should be released in compliance with the court’s order, describing the attempted rearrest as an infringement on her rights.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who served as one of her sureties, said he had reached out to the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, urging him to intervene and restrain the officers involved.

Sowore and other supporters vowed to resist any action aimed at undermining the court’s bail decision.

As of the time of filing this report, a tense standoff between police officers, activists, and other Nigerians at the court premises was still ongoing. Although no violence had been recorded, supporters maintained they would not disperse until Ohiri was allowed to leave in line with the bail order.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
