Members of the Take It Back Movement and concerned youths from Kwara North staged a protest on Thursday at the Government House in Ilorin, decrying persistent killings, kidnappings, and alleged government inaction in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas and other northern parts of the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The protesters carried placards condemning the violence in communities like Woro and Gbugbu, while chanting solidarity songs and highlighting the ongoing siege on residents.

One sign read, “Our region is under attack. Kwara North needs protection, not abandonment,” while another stated, “If Ilorin can host corps members, it can also host IDPs. Stop shifting the burden to insecure communities.”

Insisting the protest was not political, the youths described it as a desperate plea for survival amid escalating insecurity. They accused the state government of failing to provide adequate protection, saying nightly gunshots, kidnappings, and killings have become routine.

A youth leader told journalists, “The people of Kwara North are living in fear. Night after night, gunshots, kidnappings, and killings have become the new normal. How long will communities here continue to suffer in silence?”

The protesters referenced the Woro massacre and repeated attacks in Gbugbu, demanding justice for victims. Placards read, “Woro and Gbugbu victims deserve justice. Their lives must not be forgotten,” and “Bandit attacks, kidnappings, killings; how long will Kwara North continue to suffer in silence?”

Residents of Edu LGA were described as living under constant threat, with many displaced or too afraid to farm or carry out daily activities. The group warned against relocating internally displaced persons to already unsafe communities.

“Youths of Kwara North are speaking with one voice: Security for our people is non-negotiable,” they declared.

The demonstrators called for immediate reinforcement of security personnel, improved surveillance in rural areas, and decisive action against armed groups terrorising the region, emphasising that the protest was peaceful and aimed solely at drawing urgent government attention to the worsening humanitarian and security crisis in Kwara North.

A bandit kingpin, Kachalla Muhammad, stated in an audio message that he had previously intended to release the widow but reversed his decision due to the heavy deployment of security personnel in the area.
