Naija News reports that the adjustment aligns with the recently signed Electoral Act 2026, following its passage by the National Assembly and presidential assent by Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued Thursday night in Abuja, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, explained that the new law required a complete review of the previously announced election dates.

Regarding preparations for the Ekiti and Osun polls, INEC noted that while some activities have already been completed, “the remaining activities will now be implemented strictly in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.”

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
