You’re An Elder, Reach Out To Your Junior Brother – Shettima Tells Akume To Reconcile With Alia.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, to resolve their differences and collaborate for the state’s development.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Shettima made the appeal on Thursday at the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Summit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he represented President Bola Tinubu.

He urged both leaders, members of the All Progressives Congress, to set aside their dispute and prioritize party unity.

The call comes amid reports of tension between the two, which allegedly led to separate congresses by their loyal supporters about two weeks ago. Following these parallel gatherings, different factions announced their own leaders, deepening divisions within the party structure in Benue.

Shettima warned that continued conflict could hinder development and negatively impact the welfare of the people. He reminded both leaders that they share the same party and the common goal of serving the state.

Addressing Akume directly, the Vice President highlighted his long career in public service, noting his roles as director of protocol, permanent secretary, governor, senator, minister, and now SGF. Shettima emphasized that Akume, as an elder statesman, should take the initiative to restore peace by reaching out to Governor Alia.

“Benue needs stability and cooperation among its leaders to move forward,” Shettima said. “Unity is more important than personal disagreements. Leaders must work together for the greater good of the country.”

He added: “I want to use this forum to make a special appeal to His Excellency Senator George Akume and His Excellency Governor Hyacinth Alia to mend fences and work effectively. Senator Akume, apart from Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, you are the longest-serving public servant in the current dispensation. You have seen it all—Benue State Government House, director of protocol, permanent secretary, governor for eight years, senator for 16 years, minister for four years, and now SGF. You are an elder statesman; reach out to our junior brother. Let’s build Benue together. Benue deserves peace. Benue deserves development.

“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. Africa faces a critical phase of global growth, and Nigeria will influence that trajectory. Nigeria is greater than all of us. As Martin Luther King said, we either learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools. We are not a nation of fools; we are intelligent and capable people.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
