Photos: EFCC Arraigns Three NRC Directors Over Alleged ₦2 Billion Fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned three top officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over alleged fraud and money laundering amounting to over ₦2.04 billion.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Those charged are former NRC Director of Finance, Felix Njoku; Director of Procurement, Benjamin Chinwuba Iloanusi; and Director of Mechanical, Oche Jerry Ogbole-Inalegwu. They face separate counts bordering on corruption, abuse of office, unlawful enrichment and money laundering.
Njoku was arraigned before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe on a 17-count charge involving an alleged ₦736.3 million fraud. The EFCC claimed he received ₦240.94 million from NRC contractors through the account of FC Njoku and Company with Zenith Bank after leaving office. He pleaded not guilty and was granted temporary release on health grounds, with conditions including surrendering his passport and reporting to the EFCC twice weekly. The case was adjourned to March 10, 2026, for bail hearing and May 11, 12, 18 and 19 for trial.
Iloanusi appeared before Justice Ismail Ijelu on a 10-count charge involving an alleged ₦915.2 million fraud. Prosecutors alleged he received ₦160.93 million from contractors through accounts with Polaris Bank in 2022. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded, with the matter adjourned to March 3, 2026, for bail hearing and trial commencement.
Ogbole-Inalegwu was arraigned before Justice Mojisola Dada on a nine-count charge involving ₦395.19 million. The EFCC alleged he received ₦11.39 million from China Civil Engineering Construction Company through an Access Bank account linked to Altech Engineering Services. He pleaded not guilty and was allowed to continue on administrative bail, with the case adjourned to April 23, 2026.
Prosecution counsel Abba Muhammad, SAN, sought trial dates and remand orders, while defence lawyer Mordecai Adejo urged the courts to allow the defendants remain on existing bail.
The charges were filed under relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Further hearings are scheduled for March and April 2026.
