Lagos Launches Aerial Surveillance Patrols To Boost Crime Fighting.
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Airwing Command, has launched aerial surveillance operations across Lagos to strengthen crime prevention and public safety in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement on Monday, the Trust Fund explained that the initiative aims to enhance intelligence-led policing and improve the overall security framework of Lagos.
The first operation, conducted the same day, involved low-altitude patrols over Lagos Island and the mainland, demonstrating the operational reach and rapid-response capabilities of the new surveillance system.
LSSTF Executive Secretary, Ayo Ogunsan, described the aerial patrols as a key step toward modernizing security operations in Lagos. He noted that the initiative represents a strategic investment to protect lives, property, and economic activities across the state.
Ogunsan highlighted that the patrols will allow real-time monitoring of crime-prone areas, improve situational awareness, deter criminal activities, and strengthen coordination among security agencies. He emphasized that the maiden flight marked the start of a sustained programme, not a one-off exercise, sending a clear signal to both residents and criminals: law-abiding citizens can expect enhanced safety, while criminal activities will not be tolerated. He also acknowledged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s support in facilitating the initiative.
Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airwing Command, Martin Nwogoh, explained that the exercise showcased the efficiency of aerial surveillance in policing. The patrol covered large parts of the state within minutes, illustrating the speed and flexibility of air support in security management. He added that aerial assets could also support rescue missions, tactical operations, and rapid deployment of personnel when needed.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, said the introduction of air patrols would greatly improve coordination between ground, marine, and aerial units. He noted that the patrol route included areas such as Makoko, Yaba, and parts of Lagos Island, sending a strong warning to criminal elements operating in the state.
The LSSTF confirmed that the aerial patrols are part of a wider strategy to deploy innovative security solutions across Lagos. Residents were assured that the flights are strictly for surveillance and public safety, and were urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
