Reports indicate that Edetanle appeared in court on Tuesday before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, facing an eight-count charge of money laundering, abuse of office, and unlawful enrichment.

The prosecution stated that the alleged offences violate Sections 332(1) and 332(3), Section 73(1), and Section 82(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Edetanle pleaded not guilty to all counts when they were read to him.

Prosecution counsel, Abba Muhammad (SAN), requested the court to set a trial date and remand the defendant in custody pending trial. Meanwhile, defence lawyer Adebowale Kamoru informed the court that he had only just received the charges and sought a short adjournment to file a bail application.

One charge claims that between May 29 and September 11, 2024, while serving as NRC Managing Director, Edetanle transferred a total of $205,000 from his Access Bank domiciliary account to an ABN AMRO Bank account belonging to Ehimen Richard Okhiria in the Netherlands, allegedly derived from unlawful activities.

Another count alleges that after leaving office, between October 21 and November 21, 2024, he transferred an additional $40,000 to the same beneficiary, a transaction the EFCC classifies as money laundering.

Justice Oshodi ordered that Edetanle be remanded in a Nigerian Correctional Services facility while his bail application is considered.

The trial was adjourned to May 13, 14, and 15, 2026, for continuation.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
