At least 29 high-ranking police officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs), are reportedly set to exit the service following the removal of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sources within the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission disclosed on Tuesday that the development forms part of a broader reorganisation of the police leadership structure.

“About 29 senior officers will be affected in the shake-up. Several DIGs and AIGs are expected to go,” a source revealed.

Multiple insiders indicated that Egbetokun’s removal was carried out on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

One source said the former police chief had been summoned to the Presidential Villa and instructed to prepare his handover notes.

“He was at the Villa and was asked to get his handover documents ready. I understand he has completed that process and will hand over to Tunji Disu,” the source stated.

Egbetokun is expected to be replaced by Tunji Disu, currently the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement confirming his removal.

Another insider claimed that Egbetokun’s tenure was surrounded by controversy.

According to the source, concerns ranged from allegations of administrative lapses to claims about his health. The source further alleged that some officers within the force welcomed news of his departure.

There were also claims that differing opinions existed within the Presidency regarding his continued stay in office.

Egbetokun’s time as IGP drew criticism, particularly over his retention in office beyond the traditional retirement benchmark of 60 years of age or 35 years of service.

The National Assembly had earlier amended the Police Act to grant an appointed IGP a fixed four-year tenure, a decision that sparked debate among civil society groups and opposition figures.

Critics argued that the extension raised concerns about institutional discipline and perceptions of preferential treatment within the force.

The reported removal of senior DIGs and AIGs is believed to be part of efforts to reposition and restructure the police hierarchy under the incoming leadership.

ADC Ticket Battle: Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Others Blast Atiku Over Supremacy Claims.

Published

on

A heated political exchange has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, as camps backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s rivals push back against his claims of superior popularity, especially in the North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso rejected Atiku’s assertion that he remains the dominant northern vote-getter, insisting that such claims do not reflect today’s political realities.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, aligned with a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, dismissed Atiku’s influence in the North as largely elite-driven, arguing that Kwankwaso enjoys more genuine grassroots support.

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi also reacted, faulting Atiku’s position and questioning the logic of relying solely on regional identity as a basis for presidential ambition.

Atiku, in a recent interview, had maintained that none of his northern rivals, including Kwankwaso, can match his electoral strength, while downplaying Kwankwaso’s influence beyond Kano State.

His remarks sparked criticism across political circles, with some opposition figures describing them as arrogant and dismissive of other contenders.

Kwankwaso’s camp, however, maintained that both Kwankwaso and Obi have more “organic” support bases compared to politically induced followership, warning that such comments could deepen divisions within the ADC coalition.

Amaechi also argued that the ADC presidential ticket should be determined through a competitive primary rather than consensus, insisting that all aspirants should be tested at the ballot.

The growing disagreement highlights rising tension within the opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures intensify positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.
